Porsche’s gradual refresh of the 911 lineup, which began last spring, is moving forward at a steady pace. The latest model to receive updates is the Carrera S, a rear-wheel-drive variant available in both coupe and convertible body styles.

What’s New in the Updated Carrera S?

Positioned between the base Carrera and the hybrid Carrera GTS, the new 911 Carrera S gets a power boost. The 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine now features upgraded turbochargers from the previous GTS model and an intercooler from the Turbo variant. As a result, power output increases from 450 hp to 480 hp, though torque remains unchanged at 530 Nm (391 lb-ft).

The eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission remains the only option, ensuring lightning-fast gear changes.

To meet Euro 6e emissions standards, Porsche has integrated additional eco-friendly systems, leading to a slight weight increase. The coupe gains 60 kg (132 lbs), while the convertible adds 85 kg (187 lbs). However, Porsche managed to shave off 25 kg (55 lbs) from the coupe by making the rear seats optional at no extra cost. The Cabriolet remains a four-seater by default. As a result, the curb weight now stands at 1,540 kg (3,395 lbs) for the coupe and 1,625 kg (3,583 lbs) for the convertible.

Performance & Driving Dynamics

Despite the increased weight, the updated Carrera S delivers improved performance:

0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) times:

Coupe: 3.5 seconds (3.3 seconds with the Sport Chrono package)

Cabriolet: 3.7 seconds (3.5 seconds with Sport Chrono)

0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) times:

Coupe: 11.6 seconds

Cabriolet: 12.3 seconds

Top speed remains unchanged at 308 km/h (191 mph) for both body styles.

To maintain Porsche’s signature driving feel and high-speed stability, the chassis has been retuned. Available performance upgrades include:

PTV+ (Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus) with an electronic limited-slip differential

Adaptive PASM suspension (lowers ride height by 10 mm)

Optional carbon-ceramic brakes for enhanced stopping power

Design Tweaks

One of the most noticeable exterior changes is the redesigned front bumper, featuring vertical air vents on either side of the license plate. These can be painted in either black or body color, giving customers more customization options. Aside from this, the styling updates align with those seen across the latest 911 lineup.

Pricing & Availability

Orders for the updated 911 Carrera S are already open. In Germany, pricing starts at:

€155,000 for the Coupe (~$168,000 USD)

€169,000 for the Cabriolet (~$183,000 USD)

With its performance upgrades and subtle design refinements, the refreshed Carrera S aims to keep Porsche at the forefront of the high-performance sports car segment.
